Xiaomi Sells 800k units of Redmi Note 2 in just 12 Hours

Xiaomi Redmi note 2

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 2 last week. It has managed to sell 800,000 units of Redmi Note 2 phone in just 12 hours, which is a record of sorts. It was recognized for its impressive specifications and affordable price.

Xiaomi announced its record-breaking feat on Weibo, and also announced that the phablet will go on sale again on August 24. Before that, Xiaomi is hosting a global launch event in New Delhi on August 19, where it will release MIUI 7.  Additionally, Xiaomi is also widely expected to launch the Redmi Note 2 in India as well.

The phablet features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 2GHz MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage, price at Rs.9103 approximately. The phablet also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel OmniVision selfie camera, 3,060mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE support. On the software front, it runs on Android Lollipop-based MIUI 7.

You'd think that Xiaomi would be foolish not to launch the phone in India, but the issue could be related to its standards-essential patents issue with Ericsson in India. Back in December, the 3G version of the Redmi Note was banned from sale in India. The issue pertained more towards the use of the MediaTek SoC that the phone used.

Perhaps, it could be a repeat of the same issue as even the Redmi Note 2 uses a processor from the same manufacturer that is being used by HTC One M9 Plus, which is sold in India and is also powered with MediaTek Helios.

Xiaomi has become ready to establishing its set up in India soon. It announced it's intentions to start the assembly of smartphones in India at a facility in Vizag in collaboration with Foxconn as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India initiative.

The other innovations in the mobile VR headset is the speed at which the new smartphones are advancing in terms of the visual fidelity of new screens, processing power of the device and the hours of the battery life.
